Grade Levels
First Grade
Leonardo Da Vinci
We will begin learning about Leonardo Da Vinci. Throughout the unit we will read Magic Tree House Monday with a Mad Genius by Mary Pope Osborne. We will include lessons with prefixes, riddles, measurement, geometry, math logic puzzles, backwards writing, research, and vocabulary. We will be using STEAM to create wands, Italy, clothes, clouds, Mona Lisa, birdhouses, helicopters, and skeletons. It will be an exciting semester!
Third Grade
Pablo Picasso
We will begin learning about Pablo Picasso and Cubism. We will read literature about artists, types of art, and history of art. We will solve problems with measurement, perimeter, area and geometry. We will create self-portraits, mosaics, and collages. I believe the most exciting part of the unit will be solving a Rubik’s Cube! We have Rubik’s Cubes available to use; however, your child may provide his/her own cube. All I ask is that it is an unsolved Rubik’s Cube. As an extension, there are many other versions of Rubik’s Cubes we can explore.
Fourth Grade
The Stock Market Game
Students will be given the opportunity to invest in stocks using $100,000 of virtual cash. Students learn through hands-on experiences the world of investing, trading, selling, profits and losses. They will experiment with portfolios, and personal finance management. The Stock Market Game will provide the students with the knowledge in an area of our society that has a vast effect on our lives.
Along with the SMG, 4th grade will be designing and creating a product or service. We will learn about entrepreneurship, marketing, and business plans. The culminating project will be to present the business plan in a “Shark Tank” simulation.
